The interdisciplinary medical advisory board comprises a diverse group of experts specializing in adult and childhood diseases, as well as in global health. The medical advisory board is responsible for overseeing IOWD’s medical and nursing programs. In keeping with principles of evidence-based practice, members develop and revise protocols that adhere to globally accepted standards of care to guide clinical practice for volunteers in the host country. They ensure that best practices are upheld. Members advise IOWD’s executive leadership and our international partners on clinical and organizational matters that impact patient outcomes. Members of the medical advisory board serve as team leaders during medical missions; they coordinate surgical schedules, equipment needs, and staffing. The medical advisory board also compiles and evaluates data on key performance indicators.
